Monday: Tomato + Plum
Tomatoes are an excellent option for starting solids. While parents may worry about the seeds, they are actually safe as they’ll pass naturally through your baby’s system. Remember to cut the tomato into thick slices to make it easy for your baby to grip. Thick slices let your baby use their palmar grasp to grab and suck the tomato. Tuesday: Simple Beef Patty + Mango
Small beef patties made with lean meat and no strong seasonings are perfect for your baby to hold and start chewing. Mango, rich in fiber and vitamins, can be cut into thick slices for easy handling.
Wednesday: Rolled Omelet + Avocado
Eggs are packed with protein, but they should be introduced carefully due to allergy risks. Make a simple omelet without seasonings, roll it into strips, and let your baby hold it. Avocado, rich in healthy fats, is an excellent pairing and can be served mashed or in slices.

5 Essential Tips for a Stress-Free Start to Solids
Introducing solids to your baby doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Here are some tips to make this phase smoother:
1. Don’t Stress About Nutrients Right Away
In the beginning, breast milk or formula remains your baby’s main source of nutrition until they turn one. The goal of starting solids is exploration, not perfect nutrition. Don’t stress out about how much your baby is eating. They will learn more about how to self-feed and will become more proficient at eating as you continue your solid food journey.
2. Give Your Baby Time to Explore
Allow your baby to take their time with new foods. They need to learn how to grab, feel, and understand what to do with each texture. This early phase is all about discovery.
There may be a mess involved, so try not to stress about it. Instead, prepare yourself by having the necessary cleaning elements near. If your baby is spending more time playing with food than eating, that’s okay! 6-month-old babies learn the best through play!
3. Start Slow with One Meal a Day
Begin with just one meal a day and gradually increase as your baby gets used to the routine. A slow and steady approach helps both you and your baby adjust.
4. Choose the Right Moment for Meals
The best time to introduce a meal is when your baby is happy, well-rested, with a clean diaper, and not overly hungry. This creates a more positive experience. We recommend offering solids about an hour after a milk feed.

Stay Calm During the BLW Journey
Starting solids is a journey of discovery for both you and your baby. Don’t worry if, at first, your baby doesn’t eat much or seems more interested in playing with their food than eating it.
This is completely normal and an important part of the learning process. Your patience and encouragement will help your baby feel safe and motivated to try new foods.
